Shingo TAKEUCHI (1955 -)
“象嵌壷” Zogan inlay long tsubo
Seto, Aichi; 2008. 13 3/4” long by 5 5/8” wide by 4 3/4” high.
$750 (CAD)
Long and low, Shingo Takeuchi hand-built this deceptively simple zogan tsubo using only three planes. Two sides angle up to meet in the middle where a discreet mouth opens like two parting lips, while the bottom arches in a bridge. He then covered the surface in his signature inlay which zigs and zags like braided chevrons.
The overall effect of Takeuchi’s shape and surface is aerodynamic: it bursts with rhythm and potential energy like a Brancusi bird, Fontana slash, or Jasper Johns crosshatching. While Takeuchi’s pieces play with the sculptural potential of ceramics, his pieces are nonetheless functional. He high-fires his pieces, so they are water tight, and provide interesting challenges for dynamic floral arrangements.
Comes with the signed, stamped, and titled wood box, stamped wrapping cloth, and CV.
