Wood-fired stoneware vase

British Columbia, 2023; 8” tall by 4 1/2”wide.

$275 (CAD)

This stoneware vase by Vancouver-based potter Michelle Grimm was wood-fired in the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts kiln in Burnaby. It features iridescent, wood-flame markings but also some beautiful celadon glazing around the vase’s collar. Michelle added a splash of white ash glaze that contrasts nicely with the orange-brown unglazed clay body.

Originally from Maryland, Michelle Grimm studied interior design at the Visual College of Art and Design and has won several international design awards. For the past number of years, Michelle has been practicing ceramics in Vancouver, gaining a special affinity for atmospheric-fired pots
