“青瓷ぐい呑” celadon guinomi 2

Haga, Tochigi; 1995; 2 3/8” wide by 1 5/8” high.

$395 (CAD)

Another early example of Masayuki Uraguchi’s celadons, this sake cup features a classic form with subtle curves. The cup tapers in just slightly in the middle, and the bowl transitions elegantly from bowl to foot. The softness of the form is highlighted by the purity of celadon.

Uraguchi formed the lip particularly thin, not only allowing for a pleasant sipping experience, but also for the warm clay body to appear like a halo from underneath. The iron-rich clay is also evident in the crazing Uraguchi achieves on this cup - a technique for which he would become well known. This cup comfortably holds 60 ml, so while it serves well as a sake cup, this piece is also perfect for serving sencha.

Comes with the signed, stamped, and titled wood box, stamped wrapping cloth, and CV.
