Born in Seattle in 1936, Masatada (Mas) Funo studied at the University of Chicago, but in the 1970’s chose to move to Vancouver.  A self-taught artist, Funo mastered the art of raku ware, exploring its sculptural possibilities with his precisely formed boxes.

Funo sold his works at the House of Ceramics and Bau Xi Gallery. However, this box was purchased in the 1980’s at the Crafts Association of British Columbia’s Cartwright Street Gallery on Granville Island.
