Hideki Yanashita is known for his modern takes on tradition raku wares. He began potting in the Iga tradition in the 1990’s, but upon meeting the acclaimed artist Sugimoto Sadamitsu, Yanashita turned to raku under Sadamitsu’s mentorship. The relationship between raku, tea, and Zen is fundamental, and Yanashita’s practice has grown to reflect this dialogue.

However, Yanashita also dedicates his practice to other wares. His Korean inspired ceramics are especially delicate in their form and glaze. The characters for this cup translate literally to “powder-green” stoneware which describe its distinct blue-green colour and satin finish.

Yanashita is not only able to replicate the soft glaze colour of Buncheong celadons, but his surface also captures the spirit of Buncheong wares that have inspired Japanese potters for centuries.

New from the artist’s studio. Comes with the signed, stamped, and titled wood box, stamped wrapping cloth, and CV.
